Reinventing website management and technical support in the sustainability age – why I launched EasyGreen
Hi 👋, I’m Neil, the founder of EasyGreen.
We launched last month and have been busy onboarding new customers since, but I wanted to give you a bit more of the backstory of why we launched and how I got here.
In case you missed it, EasyGreen is a new UK-based startup offering subscription-based website management, technical support and renewable-powered hosting services, helping small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) enhance website performance, reduce costs, and significantly lower their digital carbon footprint.
How we do it:
- Subscription-based, predictable low pricing
- Hassle-free, set-and-forget maintenance
- High-performance, green hosting
- Tools to improve performance, reduce emissions
- Easy, free migration
- Scalable export support, use what you need, nothing you don’t
The Spark
Could a modern, more customer-centric approach to website management and support also be a sustainability solution?
I founded EasyGreen because, after 15 years working in digital agencies—9 of which were spent running my own agency—I repeatedly saw the same challenges around how clients were supported in managing and supporting their websites. Agencies would deliver fantastic websites but were often not set up for long-term support and improvement, leading to soured relationships or, at worst, businesses without functional websites.
At the same time, awareness of the internet’s carbon footprint has become more mainstream, increasing interest in digital sustainability, but relevant services are niche or come with a price premium.
This led me to ask, could a modern, more customer-centric approach to website management and support also be a sustainability solution for small-to-medium businesses?
The Problem I saw
For many SMBs, managing their website can be a pain, never mind ensuring it’s optimised to be green, fast, and secure. Many businesses report unpredictable, bloated costs and unsatisfactory service levels with current providers.
The internet’s impact creates more CO₂ than air travel. By 2025, this is predicted to grow to 20% of the world’s total electricity consumption and up to 5.5% of global carbon emissions.
Our analysis shows that most SMB websites could reduce their digital emissions by at least 50% while improving performance.
Digital emissions are a creeping problem. The internet’s impact creates more CO₂ than air travel. By 2025, this is predicted to grow to 20% of the world’s total electricity consumption and up to 5.5% of global carbon emissions.
Small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) can play a part in reducing these emissions whilst also reducing their costs and improving digital performance, customer experience and sentiment.
Individually, their emissions impact is small, but collectively, it is significant—UK SMBs run at least 200,000 content management websites with 10-49 employees. With an average (low estimate) footprint of 60kg Co2 / year, that is 12,000,000kg of Co2 / year.
The use of renewable energy by web hosting providers is currently more of a niche practice rather than the norm. While there is a growing number of companies committed to eco-friendly practices, the majority of web hosting providers still rely on traditional energy sources. This is a combination of cost and demand.
The Opportunity
I saw an opportunity in the combination of these challenges. By solving a common pain with a lower and predictable cost alternative while making it easy to adopt, switching to a sustainable solution becomes attractive (a no-brainer). Scaled, there is a lot of impact potential and a profitable business while also creating more demand for renewable-powered website hosting.
Our aim is low-cost, predictable website management and support; sustainable digital as-a-service.
Our Unique Approach
Our customers are start-ups and established small-to-medium businesses, often busy operational leaders or managers responsible for marketing assets or new sustainable ambitions. Technical digital tasks are often outsourced, and suppliers require management by people without the skills to manage their work.
“The team have always gone over and above to support us, especially as we’ve grown. They made the complicated simple and felt like part of our team.”

In my experience, the majority of business’s website support needs fit into a few categories:
- Set and forget
- There when I occasionally need you
- Regular, predictable support of common tasks.
We optimise our services to meet these needs, allowing us to keep costs low and predictable. We’re not a fit for everyone, so we check we’re the right fit during our onboarding process before taking payment.
Our services are designed to be transparent, scalable, and predictable. With subscription-based pricing, businesses can avoid unexpected costs and budget more effectively. Our expert team handles all aspects of website maintenance and support requests, allowing our clients to focus on their core operations without worrying about technical issues. Migration is painless, and we have made no changes to existing website platforms beyond optimisation.
As more businesses declare their sustainability ambitions, optimising the platform on which most claims are made is a quick win on impact, costs, and ongoing customer and stakeholder reputation. It also ensures a vital marketing and sales tool’s security, performance, and customer experience.
